It's been a while! How are you? Welcome BACK to my blog about our little homestead here in Central Maine: Olde Stone Farm.
I have to say, I do have a very good excuse for my lack of conversation. WE ARE IN OUR TINY HOME! And have been for a little over a month now; however, moving everything in and finishing touches has taken quite some time (spoiler alert: we still have a few things to do)!
We are just starting our tiny living adventure, and it has most definitely been an adjustment, but I am so excited for this journey. So, without further ado, welcome to our (tiny) home!
General Layout
Pinterest was our best friend when designing our layout. I started saving ideas in October. There were so many things I wanted to incorporate, but I found a general layout that we absolutely loved. We knew we wanted it open, so we opted for only one loft. I also knew I needed a kitchen that wasn't just one straight wall. Take a look at our U-shaped counter top with corner cabinets and lazy Susan's.

The kitchen and living room take up a little more than half of the house. The rest of it (on the bottom floor) is the bathroom, laundry "room", and a back bedroom. We knew we would have a family in this house, so John put in a space that is only around 4 feet wide but plenty big for a baby/toddler. Don't get too excited, though. For right now, it's only housing his countless uniforms and some odds and ends we've yet to find a place for.
Laundry
My favorite thing that we got to do "normal" in this house was a FULL SIZE washer/dryer. We looked at the one units, and they just weren't practical with the amount of clothes we have to wash. Not to mention, if one part breaks, you can't just replace the washer or the dryer; you have to replace the entire unit. So, this is our laundry "room." More like a closet, but it's more space than a conventional tiny home. We have a small closet with the washer/dryer, our trash can, and some shelves. Eventually, there will be some sort of door to close off this space (see, told you we still weren't finished).

Bathroom
The bathroom. I have to admit (because I'm all about being transparent) this is my least favorite space in our home and has been the hardest for me to adjust to. It ended up being smaller than we originally planned, so we had to switch up our shower plans last minute - hence the watering trough that's fit for a smurf (I always love to bring up the scene from elf where Buddy is taller than the shower head to my 6' tall husband). This shower is 100% temporary as we've found this is just not an adjustment we can deal with, LOL!

Loft
And the final space to show off: our loft. It's really not that exciting; just a bed in an attic (basically). When we were building the house, every single person who saw it muttered a "wow, are you gonna hit your head?" Ok, I'll admit. I've hit my head too many times to count, but like anything else with tiny living, it's an adjustment. The bedroom really doesn't bother me as much as everyone thinks it would. We are only up there at night to sleep; it's not a "hangout" or "relaxing" spot, so we don't spend much time up there, and it's actually pretty cozy.

Cozy. That's the word I use whenever someone at the local general store asks, "how's the tiny house coming?" We have had to switch up our ways a bit (OK quite a bit), but it's been so fun and absolutely COZY. Sure, it's hard to get down the ladder at 5 am when I'm still half asleep, but nothing beats sitting on the couch sipping a hot cup of blueberry coffee while I watch the sun rise out my picture windows; or settling in with lights dimmed and the moonlight shining through at bedtime. This is our home, and we love living tiny!
